KC Fun Day

Thank you to everyone who came in memory of Kevin’s contribution to village life. It was lovely to see children and grandchildren returning to the village to support the event. Thank you also to everyone who helped in any way and again to Gill and Dom for the use of their field and garden.

It was a bit chilly to say the least but everyone seemed to enjoy themselves sitting down and eating and chatting as well as participating in the games.

The treasure hunt in the morning certainly lived up to Kevin’s contorted clues but most people managed a good score and it didn’t rain this time! The items to collect certainly represented the numerous hobbies which Kevin had and also his Hangover Party exploits. The winning team was the ‘Tadpoles’ (otherwise know as the Winterburns).

image002The KC Cup was won by Sue Smith’s team with Xanthe and Mike.

Profit from the food sales and your generous donations has come to over £534 so with the money donated at Kevin’s funeral last year (which has already been sent) we will have raised over £1100 for the Wiltshire Air Ambulance. Kevin would be proud of you. Thank you.

Hopefully there will be plenty of photographs to be judged for next year’s KC Cup winner. The competition will be open to all villagers of all ages. Details will be announced at a later date so get snapping now.

Great Hinton Millennium Collage

Village Millennium Collage Refurbished

The collage at the back of the village hall was stitched by various villagers to commemorate the millennium. Over the years small insects and the odd small spider had managed to make their way behind the frame and onto the surrounding fabric. This year it has been taken down and a new surround stitched and strung into place and the frame has now also been sealed to the wall in an attempt to fox the offending creatures! Many thanks to Carol Clarke and helpers for the refurbishment. A small plaque is also being added to identify the different pictures.
(the photo was taken before the frame was reattached to avoid reflections)

Great Hinton Indoor Bowls Club

The Bowls Club is now preparing to start it’s seventh season with eighteen regular players eager to keep the membership strong. Our bowls sessions are very much a social occasion, and a wonderful way of spending a couple of hours each week meeting up with fellow villagers, and enjoying each others company over a cup of tea and biscuits. We do also play bowls! and after six years of playing, no one has mastered the game, which always provides new challenges.

We finished our 2014 – 2015 season with all eighteen players enjoying “The Finals” evening, when the afternoon and evening players compete against each other. It is also the climax of the seasons “Singles Knock-Out” Competition when Anne our Afternoon champion played Joe our evening champion, for the “Champion Silver Cup” which was won by Anne. Please contact me or Joe Norris if you would like to join us!

Great Hinton Indoor Bowls Christmas Finals

Our Great Hinton Indoor Bowling Club has enjoyed a good half season with the Christmas finals evening ending 2014 with a team competition between the Afternoon v Evening players. A total of 16 attended producing an overwhelming win for the Evening Team. (Our full playing membership is currently 19)

Delicious refreshments were served up at half time, followed by the “Singles Knock-out competition” final, played between Sheila Jennings (Afternoon Player) and Ken Young (Evening Player). Sheila was very much on form and won the Main Prize with runner up Ken who also played well, but not quite well enough!! The evening continued with the Afternoon v Evening match, which was won by the Evening players.

We are always looking for new members, and can assure you the Club is run to provide a sociable 2 hours in the afternoon and 2 hours in the evening on Mondays.

The 2014 – 2015 season continues again on Monday 5th January, and finishes on Monday 30th March.

Thank you everyone for your continued support.
